What We’re Looking For:

  • Unique interpretations of the prompt

  • Reflections on personal impacts of family and cultural history

  • Explorations of unique traditions

  • Critiques on how the modern age utilizes the past, both its ideas and properties

  • Voices from underrepresented minority groups

What We’re NOT Looking For:

  • Academic history lessons

Please Be Advised:

  • Documents must be formatted with double-spacing, 1-inch margins, and 12-point Times New Roman or Courier font on 8.5" x 11" pages. The top left of the first page must indicate a final word-count. DO NOT include images, illustrations, or graphics. Submissions that do not meet these formatting requirements may be disqualified.

  • We do not censor submitted content, we ask only for honesty.

  • We DO NOT consider work that has been previously published.

  • Simultaneous submissions are permitted, provided you promptly send notice of the acceptance of your essay elsewhere.

  • If we determine a phone interview will provide more context to your work, we will reach out by email first to schedule one.

  • DO NOT inquire about the status of your submission until 5 weeks after the closure of the submission form.
